What makes a locate photo record useful later?

A field photo may be reviewed long after the job. The image matters, but so does the context that explains which ticket it belongs to, what location quality was recorded, and whether the stored file has changed.

Keep the record tied to the job

A camera roll is organized around capture time. A work record also needs the job or ticket context. When evaluating a documentation tool, check how a photo is assigned to a ticket and how that relationship appears in an export.

CYA Snapper groups field photos into work tickets and records information such as coordinates, reported GPS accuracy, bearing, and local and UTC timestamps. Its product page shows the ticket screen and an exported package, so you can inspect the output before buying.

  • Can the reviewer identify the relevant ticket?
  • Are timestamps and their time zones clear?
  • Is GPS accuracy shown, including a missing or reduced-accuracy fix?
  • Does the export retain the context the reviewer needs?

Distinguish recorded location from a guarantee

Coordinates should be read together with their reported accuracy and any location warnings. A recorded position is not proof that a utility is at that point. CYA Snapper documents the marks and photos you capture; it does not locate utilities.

If the device cannot get a GPS fix, the app still saves the photo and flags the missing fix. Check that a documentation workflow keeps those limitations visible instead of turning every capture into an apparently precise location.

Understand what a file hash can establish

A SHA-256 check compares a stored file with a recorded hash. A match supports the narrower conclusion that the file matches that recorded reference. It does not independently establish that the depicted event happened, that the device clock was correct, or that a court will admit the record.

CYA Snapper records a hash of the original capture and provides an integrity check. Its package cover reports the integrity result. Keep the original files and follow your organization's retention and evidence-handling requirements; an app does not determine a legal outcome.

Review exports and privacy together

Capture and hashing run on the device. If you choose an optional map page, Apple Maps receives the coordinates needed for that request. Copies saved to Photos follow your Photos and iCloud settings, and exported packages go to the destinations you choose.

Check the privacy policy and your organization's sharing rules before sending a package. Use only approved recipients, and avoid sharing client addresses, work-ticket details, or other sensitive material in public demonstrations.
